It’s been too long since we’ve put out a remix, so here’s a hot one for ya:

This is a remix of Scars of Time from the Playstation game Chrono Cross. If any of y’all know me, you know that Chrono Trigger is the best video game of all time and the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is the best game soundtrack of all time. Well Mitsuda returned to the series to compose the Chrono Cross soundtrack. He had a much wider set of options available when composing on the PS1 compared to the SNES, so Chrono Cross has a wider range of textures. Scars of Time is an epic intro song, and we followed the original pretty closely. You can hear the original here.

For those that don’t know, Chrono Cross is pretty different from Chrono Trigger. Some of the themes stay the same, but the gameplay and visuals are very different between the two. Chrono Trigger is so revered, Chrono Cross had some pretty big shoes to fill. Our song is about all the times you don’t quite measure up. You’d have a better chance if you were evaluated in your own right, but people want what they’re used to or what they imagine.

This song comes with a wicked bonus: lead guitar work by Viking Guitar! He’s been creating sick metal remixes of VGM for a while and he’s got quite the the impressive catalog that you should check out. I’ve been a fan since early Dwelling of Duels days, and I had a chance to meet him at MAGFest 2019. I asked if he’d be interested in shredding faces and he said yes.

I hope y’all enjoy this one and it gets your heart rate up a little bit.

p.s. if you listen to this and think, man I just need more Moiré Effect + Viking Guitar, I’d say just be cool for now but keep your eyes peeled…

Lyrics:
Somewhere across time and space
things are different
Somewhere in another world and place
there’s another chance to live up to it all

Cause again, again I let you down
My everything it was not enough, after all

Again, again I hear you wondering
Again, again what might have been
Again, again you rip a piece of me
Again, again from what I am

Every time you throw it in my face
I just take it
Every time could you show a little grace
it never makes it past those memories

Cause again, again I let you down
My everything it was not enough, after all

Again, again I hear you wondering
Again, again what might have been
Again, again you rip a piece of me
Again, again this is all I am

It’s all I am
fallen and broken
All that I am
earnest and open

All that I am
fallen and broken
All that I am
earnest and open

All that I am
Take my hand
Until the end
